WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

This year is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death (1616). He was an English poet, playwright, and actor. He is considered the greatest writer in the English language.

We know very little about Shakespeare’s life. He was born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Auon, Warwickshire. He married Anne Hathaway when he was 18 and they had three children (Susanna, and twins Hannet and Judith). Between 1585 and 1892 he went to London and worked as an actor, writer and part-owner of a playing company. He died in Stratford when he was 49.

His early plays were comedies and histories, later he wrote mainly tragedies (hamlet, Othello, King Lear and Macbeth). He also wrote the famous sonnets and two long poems. His works are still very popular and his plays are performed throughout the world and more often than those of any other playwright. There are celebrations all this year. This year is also the 400th anniversary of Miquel de Cervantes death.

It is interesting to note that his vocabulary consisted of 30.000 words and we use approximately 2.000 words.

Dialogue

My primary school teacher was and is a very good science teacher. Moreover, she is the principal of the school.

Me:   Ooh! Hello Carme, after ten years, do you still recognise me? It’s very important to me, because you were my favourite teacher for the last years. Well... we share a lot of happy memories about school years don’t we?

Carme: Hello Laura! We haven’t seen each other for a long time. How are you? Is your leg better, because I remember your leg was very bad.

Me: Yes, I’ am better now, but one day when we were in the park with the class I thought I had broken my leg again. Because, do you still remember when I fell off the swings?

Carme: Yes, I do. I’ am happy that you didn’t break your leg again. Well... these experiences of school are he most important things and it’s good to remember every day the things that happened at school when we were small. Do you remember when we played in the park and went to the mountain in your last year here?

Me: Yes, yes... Lots of memories! I have to leave now, see you later!

Carme: Ok! See you later Laura!

Dear Sir Madam,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the coupon that I bought on your website. I know that your company works well, but there are some products that are not good enough.

Last Saturday I went to the restaurant and although it seemed a quality one it was really not like that.
First of all, when we arrived, there weren’t a lot of tables, and for this reason we had been wait a lot of time. Moreover, the attitude of the waiters was not the right one.

Secondly, the food was expensive for the quality that was. All the food that we ate was cold, and the portion was very small for one person.

I strongly urge you improve this restaurant because the waiters will be more satisfied.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Video: Flipping the classroom

FLIPPING THE CLASSROOM

Let`s begin with the video that I have just seen.

Firstly, it talks about the problems of doing a class with the traditional method, in other words, the teacher explaining the lesson while the students are writing or listening. With this new system, flipping the classroom, the teacher share a video with the content of the next class. Therefore, students can access to it, usually at home, and then, in the next class, they practice it. So they spent more time in the classroom asking the teacher the problems they have and he resolves it.

I think this is a very good idea, because let the student put more attention on the lesson that is studying and have more interaction with the teacher, because he will help you  with the problems you have. Maybe in the future, classes will be like this!

Sometimes it is better not to tell the truth

SOMETIMES IT IS BETTER NOT TO TELL THE TRUTH

Many people think that, sometimes it is better not to tell the truth, although sometimes your friends get annoyed because you tell a lie or a white lie. I think that on the whole, it is better to tell the truth.

First of all, if you don’t tell the truth, the other person will think that you aren’t a good friend. For example, if your best friend buys a dress and you don’t like it, it’s better not to tell the truth because it’s your personal opinion and there are different tastes.

Secondly, special dates and events such as “the invisible friend”, “the three wise men day”, etc... It’s better not to tell the truth because you will spoil the happiness of the children. If you have children at home it’s impossible to tell the truth.

As I see it, there are different situations and it is difficult not to (always to) tell the truth. In my point of view, it is better to try and tell the truth. However, in the world there are a lot of people who don’t tell the truth but they have a lot of friends and they are successful. I think this is unfair.
